The cladodes are collected when they are very tender and shipped directly to your home ready to be enjoyed on a healthy and genuine dish.

They have a mixed taste similar to green beans and asparagus, after cooking they can be consumed as:

  • salad;
  • sauté in a pan with garlic, oil and soy sauce;
  • grilled;
  • breaded and fried.

NOPAL EDIBLES: HOW ARE THEY HARVESTED?

At the Scollo Company, the Nopals are carefully harvested, manually selecting the fresh and tender cladodes, bright green in color and no longer than 20-30 cm.

The peculiarity of our edible Nopals is the fact that we grow them without using pesticides and they are certified organic.

In line with the principles of environmental sustainability and with the aim of guaranteeing products that are always fresh, genuine and of the highest quality, our company policy does not require the cladodes to be despined before hand! Our goal is, in fact, to let our customers taste the fresh product as if it had just been harvested.

THE FOOD USES OF NOPALS: HOW TO COOK THEM?

Once thornless, Nopals can be used like any other type of vegetable or to prepare juices and smoothies, excellent as food supplements. Here’s how to cook them for a healthy and genuine dish:

WEAR GLOVES

1. Using a potato peeler or a very sharp knife, remove the areas with the thorns on the flat part and all around the blade;
2. Wash them and make sure you have removed all the thorns;
3. Cut the blades into cubes, put everything in a pot, cover completely with water and bring to the boil;
4. Add a little salt and two tablespoons of white vinegar for about 6 blades;
5. Boil for about 30 minutes;
6. Drain everything and rinse with cold water.
7. READY TO BE ENJOYED: you can season them and eat them in a salad, or sauté them in a pan, add them to omelettes etc.
